Ingersoll Rand Readers

Read below to understand the types of readers or scroll down to compare products and get technical documentation.

In access control, a reader is a device on an opening that reads data from a credential and provides access to the area if the data matches the readers database.  Ingersoll Rand's reputation for quality security products extends to our readers.  With a wide variety of options that provide superior security, Ingersoll Rand is the best option for your reader needs.

Mag Stripe Readers  Technically known as magnetic stripe readers, this technology operates by a magnetic stripe card being swiped through the reader.  These are the least expensive of all readers, but are susceptible to misreads, card wear and data corruption.
Proximity Readers  Also called prox readers, proximity readers create a 1" to 20" electrical field around themselves, so a proximity credential can be waved near and the data transmits to the reader.  Prox readers only have one function, which is to read the indentification number on the card to determine whether or not to grant access.
Smart Readers  Contactless smart readers are able to send and receive information to and from a smart credential.  This allows the reader and the credential to mutually authenticate each other, providing a higher level of security.
Multi-Technology Readers  Multi-technology readers can read multiple card technologies, including both smart cards and prox cards.  Multi-tech readers are a great option for businesses migrating from proximity to smart cards, or for facilities that contain multiple companies with various types of credentials.
Other Readers  Ingersoll Rand offers many additional types of readers, including FIPS 201 compliant readers, electronic keypads, enrollment readers, barcode readers and more.
*Note:  See the Biometrics product category for biometric readers.
