Schlage Credentials

Read below to understand the types of credentials or scroll down to compare products and get technical documentation.

In access control, a credential is something you know (like a PIN), something you have (an access card), or a feature that personally identifies you (such as a finger print) .  Credentials come in many form factors, such as cards, key fobs, access codes, or biometric features.  Some credentials only act like a key and grant access, while others can hold additional information and be used facility wide for many needs, such as parking, cashless vending, transit, etc.  Schlage's reputation for quality security products extends to our credentials.  With a wide variety of options that provide superior security, Schlage is the best option for your credential needs.

Mag Stripe  Credentials Technically known as magnetic stripe cards, this technology operates by a magnetic stripe card being swiped through the reader.  This is a less expensive technology, but is susceptible to misreads, card wear, and data corruption.
Proximity  Credentials Also called prox cards, a proximity card credential can be waved near a reader and the data transmits to the reader.  Prox cards only have one function, which is to provide the reader with the indentification number on the card, and the reader determines whether or not to grant access.
Smart Credentials Smart cards have an embedded operating system that holds and trasmits more information than just an identification number.  They can be used for multiple functions, such as point-of-sale, storing biometric templates, and access control.   Additionally, Smart cards offer a higher level of security than other types of credentials.
Multi-Technology  Credentials Multi-technology credentials can be read by both smart and proximity readers.  Multi-tech credentials are a great option for businesses migrating from proximity to smart technology, or for facilities that contain multiple companies with various types of readers.
Other  Credentials Schlage offers various other types of credentials as well.
