Market Solutions

It all comes down to understanding your needs.

Which credentials options will serve you best? To answer that question, a number of factors have to be considered. Do you manage a large facility or a small one? Is there a high turnover rate? Do you operate in one building or a number of buildings? What’s unique about your facility and its users?

Fortunately, you don’t have to answer all these questions on your own. We’re here to help. Below, you’ll find in-depth looks at how different credential systems can be used in different environments.

HEALTHCARE
Every day, medical facilities are forced to balance convenience with security. Authorized personnel need easy access to key locations – and they need it fast. But patient records, medication, and other materials must be safeguarded. In situations like these, a well-conceived credential strategy is a must.

K-12
Kids. They’re the most precious resource in your facility. You need to keep them safe – along with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of sports equipment, computers, lab materials and confidential files. We can help you craft a credentials plan that allows you to keep your building secure, and your budget healthy.

HIGHER ED
Because most college campuses incorporate multiple buildings, architectural styles and reader systems, it can seem nearly impossible to create a comprehensive credentials solution. But Schlage has the knowhow and the products to make the task easier than you’d think.

GOVERNMENT
Courthouses, military installations, public offices and other government applications all have unique challenges. Fortunately, the experts at Schlage know how to assess the needs of each to create credentials strategies that increase efficiency and security.

COMMERCIAL
There’s no single ideal credential plan for today’s retail environments, warehouses, and factories. To create a strategy that truly works, you need to consider the unique factors that affect your employees, your facility, and your business. Schlage experts can help you think through all the variables.

Multi-Technology

Schlage’s dual-technology credentials are the most flexible credentials in the industry. Schlage’s dual-technology credentials contain both 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz contactless smart card capability in one unit, which allows our customers to economically migrate to the latest in smart card technology at their own pace. Schlage’s dual-technology credentials are available in the newest technologies of today including both MIFARE® and MIFARE DESFire EV1™ technology.
Proximity Technology

Schlage’s proximity technology offers your facility an easy and convenient access control solution. Proximity technology, which operates on 125 kHz frequency, is easily integrated into existing legacy proximity systems or ideal for a new installation.

Proximity Credentials can easily fit into a wallet or may be used as a strapped or clipped ID badge. Offered in several different form factors, Schlage has the Proximity Credentials to fit your needs. The clamshell style card is highly durable and more rigid than the typical credit card making this card ideal for hard environments. The ISO style card is similar in size and thickness to a credit card and has the ideal surface for print custom artwork, images and photographs for identification. The keyfob style credential can easily be attached to any keyring for convenience. The PVC adhesive patch credential can be adhered to any frequently used surface. Proximity Credentials by Schlage are compatible with all industry leading proximity readers and are also completely ISO compliant.

With the Proximity Credentials by Schlage, there is very little wear and tear on the cards ensuring longer life for your cards. These credentials also have a passive design which requires no batteries or maintenance for the life of the card.

MIFARE® Smart Card Technology

Schlage’s contactless smart credentials put you in control by delivering smarter solutions.  Schlage’s Contactless Smart Credentials using MIFARE® technology provide the choice of 2.5k, 8k, or 32k bits of storage to meet the most demanding data storage requirements.  This enhanced data storage allows for a wide range of card applications such as biometrics, transit and point of sale applications such as cashless vending and cafeteria services.  The open architecture design of Schlage’s contactless smart credential is built to ISO 14443A standards providing for a faster data transfer speed.

The contactless smart credential by Schlage operates on a 13.56 MHz frequency and also utilizes high security encrypted data which is mutual authenticated in communication between the card and reader, providing an infinite number (many trillions) of unique badge ID codes.

With the Contactless Smart Credentials using MIFARE technology, there is very little wear and tear on the cards ensuring longer life for your cards.  These credentials also have a passive design which requires no batteries or maintenance for the life of the card.
aptiQ™ Smart Cards using MIFARE DESFire™ EV1

MIFARE® is a widely used microprocessor (or chip) for contactless smart credentials. “DES” refers to the security behind the cryptographic process for enciphering data. “Fire” is an acronym reflecting the chip’s attributes: Fast, Innovative, Reliable and sEcure. The end result is a balance of:
• Speed
• Memory flexibility
• Cost efficiency
• Future application integration
• Data security

aptiQ, Schlage’s new contactless smart credential is built upon MIFARE DESFire EV1 technology. That means it has the capability of easily adapting to your specific needs. From access control to cashless vending in the workplace cafeteria to storage of biometric templates for authentication, you’re in control. At Schlage, we know a thing or two about access control. The open architecture design of Schlage’s new contactless smart credential is built to ISO 14443 standards allowing a wide range of card applications such as biometrics, transit and point of sale applications such as cashless vending and cafeteria services.

Built to the latest in credential technology (MIFARE DESFire EV1), the aptiQ smart card from Schlage utilizes superior data storage – 2K, 4K, and 8K bytes (16K, 32K, and 64K bits) of memory, providing up to four times the storage of other leading competitor products. More secure, more speed, more data storage. Simply Smarter. Contactless smart credentials from Schlage are:
• Adaptable: With memory options of 2K, 4K and 8K bytes (16K, 32K and 64K bits) and an open architecture format, you get the credential you want today—and the capability to easily expand it as your needs grow.
• Versatile: You can use Schlage’s new contactless smart credential for everything from checking out books at the library and buying coffee to passing a biometric verification for security.
• Universal: Contactless credentials and smart cards continue to grow in popularity worldwide—more than 5 billion were expected to reach the market in 2009 alone, according to the nonprofit Smart Card Alliance.

Security
aptiQ™ Smart Cards from Schlage are armed with mutual authentication and encrypted with AES 128- bit diversified keys. The card and reader verify they’re authorized to communicate bidirectionally. 128-bit keys virtually ensure no one can read or access your credential information without authorization. The technology behind AES has approval by the NSA (National Security Agency) for classified information. A message authentication code (MAC) further protects each transaction between the credential and the reader. This security feature ensures complete and unmodified transfer of information, helping to protect data integrity and prevent outside attacks.

Compatibility
The contactless smart credential by Schlage uses an open solution built to adhere to ISO 14443—a four-part international standard for contactless smart credentials. This results in faster data transfer between credential and reader, up to 848 kbps baud rate (1K baud = 1,000 bits of data per second). That’s like having high-speed internet for your access control. ISO 14443 technology—the same standard used by the U.S. government—is recommended for applications requiring large amounts of data (such as biometric templates). The open solution also gives you access to extensive support services.

Scability
aptiQ™ can support various applications such as biometric templates and cashless vending. The open architecture design of our platform means it’s capable of accepting a customized key for diversified applications. Think of it as a separate key for each room in your house. This capability enables you to add applications on your own terms— expand as slowly or as quickly as you like. And with memory options of 2K, 4K and 8K bytes, you get the memory you need—without paying for extra memory you don’t.

Applications
Here are a few ideas for customizing Schlage’s contactless smart credential:
• Access control
• Identification
• Access to data & networks
• Access to materials (prescription drugs, tools, etc.)
• Cashless vending
• Loyalty & incentive programs
• Data storage & transfer
• Biometric template storage
